Jenny Gear

Duane Andrews

From her modest gig opening for a bunch of skinny indie kids at Calios, to her big TV stint on Canadian Idol, Jenny Gear has tread the competitive path from trying to make it, to making it in the span of just a couple of yearsShe's become quite somethin' with her best-selling cd at Fred's.

A cute somethin' from just outside town wearing blue jeans and singing Leonard Cohen songs, and an almost cute nothin' from town standing alone and looking self-conscious; all fates collide should our paths cross. Funny, at a Good Kids Pretend They're Bad show five plus years ago, I swear a pretty nineteen-year-old from Carbonear approached me and introduced herself.

Duane Andrews brings a wrist full of unusual warmth to the music. Five feathery fingers tread six animated strings. His eyes creep along the wiry movements of his fingertips. His stillness moves every soul in the room through soft meaningful sounds. And he's a mighty fine guitarist, too - a window into the very soul of music that inspires even the most sensitive ears to listen.

Influenced by the jazz virtuosity of Django Reinhardt, Duane Andrews' music echoes the ageless soul of a gypsy. Not only is he a fine solo artist, but his gypsy soul also plays in several different bands including Mopaya, The Discounts, and he also performs with Jenny Gear. He released his self-titled debut cd just last year.
