A versatile talent, Dan Murray not only is a recycled vinyl artist, but he's also a custom 1 inch button entrepreneur, a co-organizer/promoter of gallery benefits and all ages shows, an artist specializing in smart and striking, defined scribble-cartoons, and he hosts his own radio show. Not bad for a shy boy just barely out of high school. The lead screamer for the young punk band, Get Stabbed, he delivered the spry social activism of songs with titles like "Hallmark, just another way of saying I don't care" and "September 11 Happens Three Times a Month in Africa". (How true.) And he assisted with the release and distribution of Get Stabbed's thoughtful independent cassettes and cd's. He reminds me of myself in his bold creative expression, and his well-meaningness to tell nothing but the brazen truth. He's quite quiet yet he comes off like a madman on stage. I'm quite quiet in person too. But I come off like a madwoman in every other medium. That's a good thing... I think. |
So, how do I thank Dan for giving so much to the St. John's arts and music community? I could send him a card, but that hardly matches the sincerity of actually saying I care. You can't buy gratitude. So Dan, no evasive, obligatory, too-lazy-to-truly-say-thank-you Hallmark card for you. I really do care. You're awesome. |
